Anyone else experience this one: About 6 weeks ago we drove from the Cleveland area to Wisconsin. Going through the gridlock beep-n-creek in Chicago we noticed what I am going to call a squeak or a metal on metal rubbing sound (for a while I thought it might be the luggage zippers jingling.). I would compare it to a brake pad wear indicator in sound. We listened for a while and I determined it wasn't anything serious enough to stop for. It went away before we got out of Chicago and neither of us recalled hearing it again. At that point I made the assumption it may have been a bigger than normal piece of the semi-metallic pad that got hung up in the brakes for a while. We don’t recall hearing it on the trip home, either.

However, we made the same exact trip this past weekend and on the way home, going through Chicago, while not as slow as the first time, the noise reappeared. Only while the last/first time it appeared to be coming from the rear (I would say right rear), this time it sounded like the right rear again as well as the left front. They have different frequencies that were easy enough to tell apart and they sometimes happened at the same time and sometimes separately. We commented on the fact it ONLY happened going through the Chicago area. The noise went away after a while, but this time it returned later and far outside of Chicago. It disappeared after a while and hasn't been heard since. I haven’t heard it during any other time driving and obviously, there is no way I can recreate this for the dealer to experience. (I’m O.K. with technicians, but I’m not driving one to Chicago and back to hear a stupid squeak!!).

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this and if so, determined what it is. I’m personally convinced its brake related, but haven’t pulled anything apart to look yet. I know the rears were done before we got it and I’ll replace everything with drilled/slotted rotors and ceramic pads when they need replacing, but was not in any hurry to do so.
