Hello all.

99 X 5.0 V8

Started hearing this squeaking noise about 2 weeks ago. I thought it was the top belt bearing attached to the PS pump. Replace it no help.

The noise comes and goes. Hot / cold no difference. It sounds like a bearing squealing more like a chirp. It is not loud but once 2 days ago as I drove up the street it got loud and sounded like something came apart then back to intermittent.

I have narrowed it down with a stethoscope to the front area of engine.

Only hear it at idle and low speed.

It seems more pronounced when I place the scope on top the Cam Position Sensor But also hear it on top the water pump.

No check engine lights.

Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

There is a thread on here somewhere with pics about how the cps makes that noise and a new one will cure it.Good luck

It is your call--
What I do know--is a squeaky bushing is a dirty-worn bushing.
The shaft is gear driven by the camshaft, then, in turn, the shaft drives the engine's oil pump. If the shaft seizes--the pin holding the drive gear will shear right off. It is about 1/16" in diameter. This will cause loss of drive to the oil pump, but the engine may continue to run--
Now, I am not saying it will happen. It may just squeak for years--
