My wife has a 97 with 4.0L OHV engine (code X). Every morning (or when engine has sat for a while) we hear squeeking coming from the right valve cover. Took it into one shop and they said the front pump bushing on the tranny was bad. Put a used tranny in and the noise is still there. (This is when I narrowed it down to the right side valve cover. Any chance it could be the rocker assembly? Engine has 90K miles. Any help would be appreciated. Wife is driving me nuts with this noise.

Thanks,

Marc

try some10w30 and a motocraft filter first and go from there

I have a similar problem. I just posted on it. I have a 96 XLT SOHC 4.0 and mine has a squeek coming from an area I'm not sure of. Sounds like the cam area but I'm not sure cause I don't know a whole lot about that kind of thing.
