i think it might be ares iac valves or the mas sensors

No. I replaced my IAC with one off of my old engine which I am positive that it worked. I also cleaned the mass.

If the Check engine light comes on while the engine's running, pull trouble codes from the computer (www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html). Note the codes, type of code (KOEO hard fault, KOEO continuous memory, KOER), and post them here.

when the engine is runing and i pull out my air box and let it breat frealily it runs fine does that meant that there is somthing worng wiht my mas and when i puled it out i found a chunk of fiberglass in my air box is that suposed to be there

could this be the reason that the im geting such bad gas milage

Could be. Have you tried cleaning the MAF sensor? Did you get any trouble codes from the computer?

im having a hard time to get the check engine light to come on know but u mean mas or is there a anothsensor that i have n ot checked yet

General Cleaning may be required

ok here guys try this it worked on my X and my friends Ranger. Mine idled rough and jumped rpms when sitting, also it stalled out sometimes and the check engine light kept on coming on....my friends ranger constantly shot out black smoke when he reached a **** point and studdered, his idle also fluctuated as well.

Take your MAF sensor off and take the screws out. Clean the fillaments(the two wires) with non-chlorinated carb or brake cleaner. Let Dry and install. Check Air Filter at the same time.

On your intake manifold take off the Idle sensor completely and spray out as well. Let dry and install (Do not have nice shoes or clothes on when you do this)

Last lift your car up and replace your O2 Sensor they have a habit of making your idle jump from about 500 to 950 on auto-trannys. Ya they cost about 50 bucks, but hey it solved our problems.

Also be safe and double check your spark plugs, just to eleminate that possiblity.
Post back and tell how it worked

Great Advice

I Am Having The Same Trouble On My Ex

Later On When I Find My Maf And Intake Manifold I Will Be Better Equipped To Answer In A Proper Way....

Great Advice Though Thanks....

MAS (Mass Air Sensor) = MAF (Mass Air Flow sensor). Sorry about the confusion
What do you mean you are having a hard time getting the CEL to come on? The CEL doesn't have to currently be on in order to run the self-tests. Hook up your code reader/voltmeter and jumper wire as per the instructions and turn the key on.

ok i checked my codes today there is no way that i can do this every time that i did it i would get difernt numbers so im gogin to take it to autozone i got every thing form 86 97 33 22 lots of didfernt numbers if somone could help me it would not be that bad i looked at that website it helped a little bit but not that much

i have found that after cleaning the maf sensor spraying carb cleaner into the throttle body wile working the throttle by hand helps the rough idle/stalling

i fixed my idiling prob it was a vac hose that was discontede but the funny hting is that the same day i broke my flex plate into peices so from one prob to another u know how it goes

Fiberglass in air box

A friend of mine found the same thing in his airbox. It seems that rats would pull the fiberglass off the firewall and take it into the airbox to build a nest. I found dog food in mine......

well u will have snacks for later then

first thing id check is my spark plugs ive had that problem many times in a 96 explorer

missing

I did put new plugs and wires.
