My 1999 Ex was a handmedown from my parents who bought it brand new in 99. I was younger and not so detail oriented about cars at that age and can't remember if the chime went off or not when the truck was started. There's a chime reminder that the lights are on if you exit the vehicle, it chimes when a door goes ajar, and there's another reminder if the keys are in the ignition and you exit. So it's not completely dead, but there's no audible system check with a chime at start up and I can't remember if there ever was, which shows how long it's been absent.

Is it fuse related or what would cause it not to work? I know more than the average person about how to work on a car but not super competent, so is this doable for me if there's a solution?

It only chimes when: lights are on - engine off (continuous tone), seat belt (6 seconds unless buckled), door ajar or is opened - engine on (1 second tone), keys in ignition - engine off (continuous tone), and when an idiot light illuminates (1 second tone). Thats about it.

I was prompted to ask this question when I saw the vid at the bottom last night since there was a chime for that. That one is a 1998, and it's a Sport, so did either the four door or the 1999s not have it? Just curious, because the other chimes he hears with the ajar door and keys in ignition with door open are the same sounding for me.

Oh and if it's easier, I meant to add that he starts it up at 50 seconds.

You hear two different warning chimes in that vid. The first being "key in ignition, door open" (like a ding ding ding from the time he put the key in the ignition), the second is a one second tone, because the door was open, engine running (starts after engine starts).

After the engine starts or turning the key to on is the chime I'm looking for. I know about the single, higher pitched tone for the door ajar, engine running.

Here's another video demonstrating what I'm not hearing. He puts the key in and you can hear a quicker beep telling him the door is open. Then he turns it to on and there's a longer, less frequent tone and it stays on after ignition, before hearing the door ajar tone.

To hear that tone, the truck must be running and someone opens a door.
Only other time that tone will be heard is when/if an idiot light on the dash illuminates or when the message center (if so equipped) indicates a warning.

I edited the post so could you follow up to it? Sorry that I keep going back and forth but I'm just trying to better explain myself.
