I have a 2016 Ford Explorer Limited with 52K miles. Every once in a while the following happens when I attempt to start it:

- Engine turns over but won't start.
- I pull fuel pump fuse.
- Attempt to start, turns over, burns fuel in cylinders? I put a question mark as I believe that is what is happening.
- Put same fuse back in place and starts with no issues.

At this point it might run fine for a few months or more. But inevitably the issue comes back.
If anybody has any ideas I would really appreciate it! I replaced the plugs but that didn't fix it. We thought it might be bad gas but we have been using premium fuel. I live in Chicago suburbs.

Press the pedal all the way to the floor and crank. This signals the computer to shut off the injectors so a flooded engine can be cleared.

You *might* have a leaky injector if the above works.

Have you checked to see if there are any trouble codes stored? I'm not sure that you are burning fuel after you pulled the fuel pump fuse since it won't be able to pump fuel. Perhaps you have a bad pump.
