How do you guys pass State Inspections? Do you remove the 33" tires and put on smaller tires?

Depends on the state. I didn't have any problems as long as my lights and emissions met requirements. Some states also have bumper height and mudflap reqs.

In PA the bumper has to be within 30 inches of the ground, and tires must be covered by fenders, but flares are allowed to help cover tires.

If you took 30 seconds to fill out the "City, State" part of your profile, we would know where you are talking about.

yeah and you misspelled "explorer"

:D

No.

Yes.

You do??? hahaha thats hilarious! I assume the extra 1" lower the truck sits with the 31's is to get the bumper within limits??? Or is it for the tire coverage laws?

I dont think Colorado cares what you do, as long as it runs, doesnt have a CEL, has a CAT, and passes the sniffer test, you could run 44's on a mini cooper....

Now I have yet to try and pass CA emissions, should be interesting with my rig :)

In VA your tires have to be something like within 2% of the stock tires diameter to pass.

They do? Crap.... I guess I'll have to change out my rims when I go in.

I haven't had to do it yet since I lifted my X, but if you are lifted over 4" in NJ we just need to pass a stability test.

I don't know if anyone has done it here but I'm told if you fail your rig is laying on its side at the end of the test. I find that hard to believe.... but ya never know!

I have never heard of that, or anyone to get busted for it. I will look through the VA Statutes tonight and see if I can find it. VA does have the 28" bumper height law, but they don't bother with that at inspection time..................they rather catch you on the road and write the big ticket.

edit: 6000th post. geez, what a dork! but at least it mentioned one of my favorite subjects...............VA!:D

Robb: where do you lookup va state laws pertaining to cars? send me a link?

Each state usually has a website where you can look into the statute books.

I am working on a post right now trying to collect all of Va's Laws in regards to vehicle lifting (and other mods). I am sick right now and it seemed like a good way to spend the time this evening, BUT GEEZ it is a lot of reading.

I will have it posted (at least rough draft) later tonight.

I tried looking up laws once, but all automotive laws were mixed in with regular ones, and I found it really hard to locate car laws... thought he might have had a link that JUST had the va car laws.

State inspection? What are those?:D :D :D :D :D

hydroxy,
I started a thread here. The only place that I know of that you will find vehicle inspection laws only is through the VSP link on that page.

why thank you

Well that's what my brother was told when ordering tires for his car from a local shop...lemme see if I can find anything to back this up.

EDIT: After searching for about 10 minutes I couldn't find anything either. The lady selling my bro his tires was probably BSing him trying to sell him more expensive tires.
