Just a question, Since the power steering is electric assisted steering. Anyone know if the assistance can be adjusted. Mine is very soft and wallowy, not much feed back from the road, and at a certain point, say roughly 45 degrees turning, it seems as though it turns a lot sharper than what it started with wheel not changing.

My old car a VW GTI was electric assisted, and by tapping into the computer you could adjust how much assistance was put out for certain speeds.

Check your tire pressures. If you want more feedback. Could be low. Should be 35 PSI.

it takes time to get used to a new car, different brand, different design, i guess. After having driven my 05 Nissan Xterra for almost 6 years straight, everyday, in and out, day and night, when I test drove the XLT, I am not used to it at all! But it doesn't mean it's not a good car. My Xterra has pretty good 0-60 mph time, the 2011 Explorer is kinda relatively slower, and it's kinda expected if you look at the numbers and specs since the torque of my Xterra is almost the same as the horsepower, eating up more gas too! Also, it took me couple months to get used to the Xterra heavy trucking-like steering (I had a honda civic before the Xterra, what a big jump in size!)

I ordered mine yesterday anyway!

It's not electric assisted steering its 100% electronic.

You can have the dealer check the programming if the tire pressure doesn't change anything.

Mine is excellent "on center" feel and turning is rock solid.

If it's 100% electric, does that mean I can't turn if there is a power failure while I'm driving down the highway?

Yes. It's the one big downside with the X. Didn't you know that?

j/k ;)

Per the manual (which I just re-read again last night - while waiting for X) if you don't have electricity, you can still steer it manually, but it says it will be much harder.

In 25yrs I have never seen nor heard of a vehicle loosing power while in operation.

Yes it can happen, but then again I guess the world could blow up or be over run by Zombies too!

A nuke could be set off and a giant EMP could eliminate all the electronics and short everything, thus leading to power failure.

I'm ready for that. I ordered mine with the Active Electro-Magnetic Pulse Assist feature. So I'm all good!
