Steering Wheel Cruise Control Lights

bulb quality

As for the guy talking about AutoZone being cheap bulbs, etc...don't get fooled by marketing on bulbs. It runs deep. THere are only a handful of bulb manufacturers in the world...everything else, whether it says " Super Xenon blue high output heavy duty" or whatever, is pretty much the same bulb private labeled for people who buy into marketing hype. Go with the sylvania or GE bulbs sold at most auto stores. If you want to make them last a bit longer (hypothetically), you might try making sure the contacts are clean and tight. If you suspect there is any vibration back there, you might also put a dab of silicone around the bulb if it doesn't get too hot. Just dont coat the bulb...it needs to cool, or you will reduce it's life that way. If anyone makes halogen bulbs as a replacement ot regular incandescents, I'd cheack that out, too.

Okay. so how do I get to the orginal bulbs to replace them? The cruise control buls are out on my 97X

If the 97 wheels are like the 95 wheels, then the rubber covers pop off the plastic switch housing pretty easily. If you look closely, you'll see the gap. They can be removed by hand. Once the rubber cover is removed, you'll see the circuit board. In the center of the circuit board is a blue (maybe another color on the 97) plastic, hex head looking socket. Twist it about 90 degrees in whichever direction it will turn, and lift it out.

Use the part number posted above by ltools:
E5RY*13466*BA as a replacement.

Getting the covers back on the switches is a little more difficult. I found it easiest to start near the airbag in the center of the cover and work both ways until it is fully seated. A little lubrication helps alot as well.
