Steering wheel vibration at idle '06 XLT

Steering wheel vibration in new '06 XLT at idle?

Hi, Does anyone else with a newer model XLT experience a slight vibration or "buzzing" coming up the steering column to the steering wheel whether at idle, drive, reverse, upside down, etc.?

The tech at the dealership is telling me that it's normal but it just doesn't seem right to me? Any insight would be appreciated.

I get vibrations in my steering wheel and gas pedal in my 06' Limited around 2000 rpm's. I posted on here about it, but no one seemed to have any idea why it was happening.

I have an '07 Mountaineer AWD 4.6L with 50k miles and I'm having the same issue.
A noticable vibration/grinding or buzzing feeling through the steering wheel when at idle that goes away as soon as the RPM's come up.

Anyone else run into this or have a solution?

I've got it too. Thinking it's coming from the power steering pump.

If I listen to the pump though a bunch of socket extensions I can hear the same tone coming from it.

I've only had the truck for a month now so I don't know how long it's been like this.
Never had any steering issues with my '02 Explorer and it had 165k on it.
I have another 60 days until the B-B warranty is out so I think I will wait at least another month before I take it in to be checked out in case something else happens.

Has your's done it long?
Is this considered a "normal" thing?

I don't really think it's a major issue right now. Mine sounds like a bearing is going out. I plan on taking it out when I get around to it and getting a rebuilt one from the local cheap auto store.

Since you're still under warranty I say why not and try to get them to do it. Place your ear on the steering wheel and that vibration will sound like a "hum" if it's like mine.

The same exact tone of that "hum" can be heard on the pump if you take a long metal bar (metal transfers sound vibrations very well) or a set of socket extensions like I did, and place it on the pump with your ear on the other end.

If yours does the same I would describe it to the dealer just like that and see about getting a new pump!

Agreed, a bearing going bad does decribe it well.

I do plan on taking it in before the warranty expires, I'm just waiting until it's closer to the expiration date so if there is something else that pops up, I will only have to pay the deductable once.

I'll post back with the results.
