Strange Noise In Front End

I just got a 97 XLT and it makes a strange noise when rolling very slowly and is worse when the wheel is turned. It almost sounds like a pulling kind of noise...like a kind of metal stretching sound coming from the front end. It's really hard to describe...but it's annoying and I can't figure it out.

rolling friction could be associated with bad hubs... they last about 100k so it's likely time to get them replaced.

ball joints make noise over bumps and uneven road. as they get much worse, it will affect your alignment.
