Tried doing a search for this with no luck in the archives!

Can anyone tell me if they have had any luck finding a performance tire for the stock 16" rim? I would like to have a tire with a nice tread design, and cannot find anything in a 70R series...Is there such a thing?

I would rather switch over to a set of aftermarket rims, but I'm still reasearching my possibilites at this time.

Maybe I can go with a 60R series tire and not throw off the speedo to much doing this???

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Cheers!

What size, and how much performance are you wanting? Are you looking for 255/70? You'll pretty much only find all-season or AT tires in this size. If you're wanting a performance tire, you will need to go to a 275/60 or 285/60 tire....

Well I'm actually contiplating if this is the right approch. I'm looking into finding some aftermarket rims for the sport, but everything for a 18-20" rim is becomming costly. I think by next year I'll have the rims.

In the mean time I guess going with a nice all season tire would be a better decission at this point.

I have the 255/70R/16's for stock, but would prefer to move away from the some what aggessive stock tread into something with a better tread patteren.

I like the pottenza's, but I have a feeling these are not avail for this size of rim.

Over all, what is the max width I can achive out of the stock rim? 265, 285? I really would like to go with a more wider street tire. Performance is stock at this point on the truck, and high speed consideration is not to much concern. I would just like to upgrade the apperance is all.

Thanks in advance!

Jason...

The recommended minimum rim width for a 285/60 is 8", so you might have a hard time finding someone to mount them. It should be OK to mount the 275/60 on the stock rim, but your height will be 1" lower. If you stick with stock size (for now), there are some highyway treads available. Check tirerack.com. The Dueler HL, Geolander HT, Geolander HTS all have unique highway treads. If your tires are not worn now, and you eventually want 18s+, just start saving, and watch e-bay.

Thanks for your input.

Decisions, decisions? I think at this point I will purchace a mild A/T tire for the stocks and eventually when winter approches these will become usefull for these reasons.

I want aftermarket rims, but the $ can become quite high...We'll see how the tax return goes I guess.

Cheers,

On the Explorer Express web page, they sell the Cobra style rims in both 17" and 18" sizes. They also say that the 18" rim gives you a rougher ride. Personally, I have been looking at the 17's and getting a nice tire to go on that. Good luck.

Thanks man!

I'll check out their site to see what they have to offer.

Actually, I think their is a set of 17"s on e-aby right now.
You may also want to check it out?

Cheers!
