2004 Eddie Bauer Explorer.
So typical crank no start, lead to the usual tests, which lead to not hearing the fuel pump come on with ignition. Removed connector to fuel rail to confirm no gas coming through as well... No gas being pumped through. So seemed obvious.... Fuel Pump failure...
Removed fuel pump, put it on the bench and gave it 12v and the electric motor ran no problem. The fuel pump it seemed was NOT the issue....
I had ordered a new pump anyway, and plugged it into the vehicle just to see, and the new one did not run in the vehicle either...
CHECKED SO FAR:
Fuse,
Relay,
That switch under the dash on the right that trips in an accident (tried bypassing it also)
Bridging each of the wires going to the pump. (Because I found some cracked and gnarly insulation underneath near the rear axel
Bridging the ground wire direct from batt in case of bad ground.
Visual inspection of the computer that controls the voltage to the pump which are found on the inside of the rear cargo case on these Eddie Bauers. It was in great visual condition.
I have no codes of any significance on the scan tool.
Now I'm thinking fuel pressure sensor (which on this one is under the plenum) But would that just totally fail causing no fuel pump turn on? This is a key question... Does a bad fuel sensor stop the pump running completely? I'm only aware of this causing rough running and starting issues not stopping the pump running completely... but maybe not??
And also the computer that controls the voltage to the fuel pump that is found inside the back strut on these... maybe it's that?
Can anyone make any suggestions of a test I have not tried or thought of and if the fuel pressure sensor can cause a full stop of voltage?
Or anything else... I'm stumped!
