i just got my 2 infinity perfect 12s installed on my kenwood excelon amp. it runs perfect, but one sub has a strange distortion from it. i tightened all the screws down around it but its still there. i hooked the two subs up in parallel like the instructions say (using the sigma servo). the one that is hooked up to the servo wires is the one that is distorting a bit. i tried taking the sigma servo off but that didnt fix it. any ideas what might be wrong? thanks.

What type of box is it Prefab or custom built.
I would start by disconnecting the speaker wires from the box and push on the cone of the sub that sound funny. Listen very carefully for air leaks from around the sub as you push on the cone . Any air leaks will make your sub sound bad. Prefabs are notorious for this because they try to make the opening fit all the different size baskets out there

its a prefab q-logic box. i think i fixed it though. how stupid a fix this was. there was a sticker in the box that had a corner sticking up and was vibrating like hell when the sub hit. i ended up rescrewing the sub down like three times. for some reason if i mount it the way the screws should be, the infinity logo is crooked. go figure. i made it straight.

We carry the Q-Logic boxes at work. I really am not a big fan of there new boxes with the Q-Ring.
It can be a bear to get them not to leak with some subs.

im not sure how to describe the way it distorts. its like there is a flapping noise in the speaker. could that be due to an air leak. i pushed on the woofer and heard air leak out the sides, but i also heard a leak on the good sub, the one that sounds perfect. hmm.

Seeing you have Perfects try checking the surrounds we have been seeing the glue letting loose and the surround coming off the frame If that is fine try this. Is your box a new one with the Q-Ring. If it is here is what I do at work. I take the gasket material it come with and throw it away. Go to the hardware store and get some new stuff. I use foam weather stipping that is 3/4 wide and 3/16 thick. Apply it to both side of the Q-Ring. Install sub and tighen down good. I use a hand screwdriver to tighen them up.Sometimes if you use a drill you trip the holes out.

ya i already drilled the holes in, damnit. my stupid neighbor doesnt know ****, hes the one that did it. how do i check the surrounds? forgive me for the ignorance but which part am i checking?

The surround is the rubber part that attaches the cone to the basket. You can to this by lifting at the plexi gasket on the front and look very careful at it and see if it lift up. Was your box new with the Q-Ring mounting system. If it is I would get the gasket material and make sure the sub is sealed to the box good. Then push on the sub and see if it still leaks. If you still have leaks it is probable the surround coming unglued.

the distortion sounds like the speaker is unglued rather than a bad seal. ya the box is the new q-logic with the qring. ill go pick up some of that material on monday and see if it fixes the problem. if not, ill be back posting here =) thanks for the help.

Make sure you use the Q-ring as it helps center the sub in the hole. I have seen guys not use it and the sub was not centered in the hole. When they tried to screw the sub in they ruined the baffle board becase the screw broke the wood out.

just out of curiousity what do i do if the surround is unglued and that is my distortion source. is it fixable? or do i need to get it fixed or exhanged.
