Bare with me for a minute here. I am an idiot and accidently locked my keys in my truck today with the ignition in on. I noticed after my battery was already drained and couldn't use my keypad to get in the truck. I was lucky enough to have left the sunroof cracked open a little and was able to fish a coat hook through to get the handle.

That fiasco got me to thinking of how often I leave my keys in my truck (I rely on the keypad) and made me question the possibility of running auxiliary battery terminals low on the body in case I need a jump to get the truck unlocked. However, i am worried about water contact if i run it low enough. Has anyone done this or know of a rubber isolated terminal that can still be accessed with standard jumper cables?

Easier Solution.

Just get one of those magnetic key boxes, put a spare key in it and hide it under the bumper somewhere.

Now the fun is to remember to put the spare key back!

There are a lot of remote terminal kits out there: http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performance-Products/555/10315K/10002/-1 I've seen them on the back bumper of work trucks as an auxiliary 12 volt power source.

These would be OK with the occasional rain storm other than the potential of corrosion. As long as you don't park in the middle of a lake I think you'd be fine.

maybe the auxiliary power connector in the box would work???
