Suggestions for a 2 inch lift on 94 Explorer

depends if you wanna be proper, or redneck it. You can lift it as much as you want for less than $50. All you need is to put the rear axle under the spring, which is free and lifts 5 inches, then you can put your shackles on the lowest setting which should make it about 3". And in the front you just need to make some brackets for the axle housings and radius arms. and then some spring spacers. if you have some time and a decent welder you can do it no problem, im doin it next time my parents go on a trip then the only problem is drive shaft and shock lengths. you can easily fix that with driveshaft flange spacers and extended shock brackets or new shocks.

...I am not getting an attitude but, with the amount of incorrect information in this one post for example, I would only hope that you will let others answer some questions with a little more experience and info to add ...

ok i just went outside and did some measuring and ya i realize flipping the axle and dropping the shackes will give it too much lift. even in that case you can make a lowering bracket for the front leaf mount which would probably be better than putting really long shackles in the back and that would work fine. and custom bracket the front parts like i said. then get longer shocks. And for the record, everything other than the shocks. i can do by myself for under $50. Like i said, as soon as i get a chance i'll do it. Only problem is i'm going to school and working so time is a problem and my parents don't let me work on my explorer. so i need to do it while they are gone.

theres a 2" lift kit for like 110.00 on ebay. it comes with the rear add a leafs and front coil spacer to go under the front coil spring.

Don't forget besides the price of your lift you'll need a alignment. If they can't get it close they'll have to install some new "bushings". Les Shwab quoted me around $170 for bushings and alignment. I took it to Firestone and got a lifetime alignment for $140 and we didn't need the shims yet as we are letting the new springs settle in.

will i need an alignment if i just added the f150 coil seats? also, will the stock shocks be able to handle the 1.5in lift, so will i need replacement shocks for a 2in lift?

Yes, you need an alignment when you lift it 1.5".. the camber and toe will be off..

Yes the shocks can handle 1.5" lift over stock.. then can even handle 2.5" if you play with the bushings.. Your brake lines should be fine too.. its 2"+ where you need to get longer lines.

The shocks in the rear won't lift it.. shocks don't affect ride height..

Another option is to replace the rear springs with OME (old man Emu).. they ride really nice and will give you 1.5-2" of lift.. Then.. if you need the extra "bit" put the war-153 back on instead of the stock ones..

You can also use AAL for the rear.. or roll your own leaf pack by using f-150 springs mixed with your explorer springs.

I know the shocks wont lift it but what if my old shocks are sagging? And would the AAL make the ride off/on road stiffer?

sorry for all the questions but im just trying to learn

Shocks don't affect ride height at all.. that means they can't cause it to sag or lift. (we are talking normal shocks, not those funky ones with springs on them or air shocks).. I've driven with 3 shocks before and it doesn't affect the ride height.. other than that side w/out the shock bounced a lot more..

The AAL will stiffen up the ride some.. But, if your old springs are already weak/soft that may be a good thing.

well, i got my 2" lift from ebay for like 80 bucks shipped i think, it was an add-a-leaf, with a poly spacer that went underneath the stock spring, the only problem i had was my rear leafs were weak, so went to the junkyard and got the 2 center leafs of the leaf pack and added them to my existing leafs, it helped, ALOT, if you wanna see it i have it on cardomain, the links in my signature
