Re: Can you say "Blown 4.0"

You have more dongs?

Gives new meaning to the word blown...

FYI Dyno scheduled for 10/16/03 @ 1400 with Apex Motorsports in San Jose, CA.

Ya know, I have no idea... I should probably find out. It doesn't really matter though it has to be done. If I remember right it was $100 per hour. I just need to make a few pulls so Brian can get some data and fine tune my chip. Then it's back to the dyno for some final numbers.

Yeah, i wonder what is more cost effective... the supercharger or the V8 + trans swap

Let's see, $3000 and a couple of days work, or one day if you got everything in hand. Easily removed and installed on something else if you sell your original 4.0 or even sold.

OR

$3000 in engine and MAYBE tranny, $1000-$2000 in install labor, weeks without your truck......and you'd never be able to remove it and sell it for anykinda good price.

Hmmm, I think It's a worthwhile investment.

Just my opinion though, a 5.0 is nice but its a BIG investment.

So I've been getting blown for a couple of days now, I'll tell ya I love it.LMAO Seriously You'd be amazed what one of these things can do for your ride. I've found my new cruising speed. 94mph. Purrs like a kitten with a whistle in his mouth. I see that Brian is inquiring about interest in a kit simlar to mine. It would be well worth it. I had to do quite a bit of leg work to get to where I'm at. To basically get one right out of the box trimmed and tuned for you, you can't beat it. Brian from Apten, Doug from 4.0 performace, and John V. from EE, I'm forever grateful. We are very furtunate to have these gentlemen associated with us. They have the knowledge and the know how. Best of all they are willing to share everybit. That is awesome.
Thanks for everything so far,
Jeff

Hows the acceleration off the line?

Well, there's a couple different senarios. There is certainly an increase in acceleration. Again I haven't jumped on it yet, due to the lack of tuning. Even without hammering it you can feel some G's. There is effortless acceleration and throttle response. It does seem to have a slight lag 'til it really gets spun up. But, again I haven't spun it up early. I haven't gotten the new clutch in yet either so I'm sure I'll be lacking off the line. The stock clutch has plagued me since I got the truck. I was never happy how it engaged. Under hard jump off the line you'll slip it, that sucks. The dyno is this week so we'll see how we stand and whether or not I can start doing some real pulls. I'll be sure to keep you all updated though. Especially considering Brian is talking about this new kit.
Later,
Jeff

If your having clutch problems in n/a form your gonna have them even worse in s/c form. That's the big thing with any form of power adder, it will increase your power but it will bring any problems to full attention. That's why its always a good idea to change your plugs, fuel filter, air filter and check your wires before doing an install and then get everything else in line as well.

The lag you speak of will be gone with a chip or an FMU if you stomp it from a stop, your not using an FMU as of now right? Don't get hard into it without some form of increasing your fuel, the 24's with a returnless system are safe because the fuel pressure is so high but on a regular fuel setup you can cause problems by running so lean and at best burn out a plug or even a head gasket, you don't wanna know at worst ;).

I figued as much Doug. I'm catching on. The FMU isn't hooked up yet. But it's in there with a 6:1 disc installed. I have a Spec II clutch waiting to be installed. Just gotta get a chance to do it. I going to go easy on it as I said 'til we get it on the dyno and see where I stand.

I would definately take it easy if the FMU isn't installed, thats what gives the motor the extra fuel it needs and prevents a lean condition which could cause the motor to go boom!

Dyno day has come and gone.

Went to Apex Motor sports today and made a couple of pulls for tuning. The Nombers that we got weren't quite what I expected. I'm happy none the less. It looks like we need to pul some timing and doctor the A/F ratio a bit. I also want to see about putting a smaller pulley to bring the boost down into a more effective range. More on that later.

Yeah, I would have imagined more than 177 hp at the wheel. Probably needs some more tuning. Either that, or there is something missing on the chip.

I was talking to John V. last week about your setup, getting some ideas from him. Keep us updated!

The Guru's are working right now on it. Doug was telling me that I have a lot of room here. He said that most of the time he sees 195rwhp without tuning. So hopefully the Apten magic man can work his miracles.

Yup, 195rwhp without and anywhere from 204-215 with in stock form, no camshafts or huge injectors. You got a good baseline with a very safe a/f curve. Start from here and work you way up.

What numbers does the 4.0L ohv do on the dyno stock? Your install looks awesome!

Got my chip recalibrated, and installed today. I really think that Brian is getting real close to the mark. This thing pulls harder and harder all the time. " I Tink Me Likey". Dyno day is set up for Tues 10/28. I'm really looking forward to seeing the new numbers. It may be possible to look at the data again and do a little more tweaking. Again, hats are off to Doug904, and Brian. Thanks a ton. I'll post the results of the dyno as soon as I get them.
