I have a 97 SOHC the only mods I have done is a k&n intake. I did a tune up about a month ago and about 2 weeks ago I noticed that my truck surges under low RPM's mostly. If I shift it down and rev it up then it goes away 90% of the time. It some times it will do it under constant speed. For the most part it either dose it all day or none at all. It idles just fine and still has good power but I get like 35 less miles to the tank now. please help me out!!!!!!!!!!!

Did your tune-up involve replacing the spark plugs? If not, mabe you have a bad plug. If so, maybe one of the wires isn't making good contact.

Did you find out what was causing the surging? I have a 98 SOHC and it does the same thing and I can not figure out what it is. Some times it does it sometimes it does not. If anyone out there has had the same proplem PLEASE tell us what is going on.

Had a similar problem some time ago. Fuel system was dirty. I dumped in a bottle of one of those additives (can't remember the brand, there are many but I did pick a more expensive one). The surge pretty much went away after that.

Edit: Just saw this thread started 2 years ago! Wonder if the guy ever solved his problem.

i might of had the same problem except i wasnt getting fuel to my engine and then the truck died... the fuel pump broke and the guy replaced the it and the fuel filter for $530 =( i get better gas mileage now that it was replaced

I just put new spark plugs in my 98 SOHC and it runs awesome now. I think the plugs I took out were original. They were in such bad shape. It runs like a dream now, smooth and steady. Bosch platinums are what I put in.
