torshon bars have no leafs they twist for the spring action

There are certainly leaf springs on a second Gen explorer.

I know how a TORSION bar works.

Check the length of the torsion bars. Someone mentioned them being different lengths recently. I don't recall that, and the one picture I have doesn't make it clear if they differ. I think they are the same length, but I'm not positive.

The torsion bars on these usually are adjusted to different levels, the adjustment bolts will not be at the same location. That's normal. Yours sounds like it's quite a bit different left to right. But I wouldn't condemn either bar for that, they are strong and only the F150's had some reported failing torsion bars.

I would look at the rear height hard, and if it's not really level, then I'd work on that first. The front is somewhat easy to adjust, worse case would be to buy new keys that raise or lower the truck several inches(it moves the adjustment range up or down). If you needed it to be stiffer from bottoming out, then you would have to get stronger springs.

On flat, level ground, place 2 jack stands, 1 per side, on the rear frame rails with even height and both tires off the ground. Use measuring tape to verify. Measure the height of both sides of the front at control arm. If both are same or very close. Concentrate your efforts on rear springs. Doing this eliminates the front as being the main issue.

Be very cautious and observant. Look for any frame damage or repair. Check your body to frame bushings while you are doing this check, as well.

Reverse this check to check the rear springs.

Once complete, you will know what needs work.
