swapping transmissions

i own a 91 explorer sport. v6 4.0 2door. 5 speed manual. it has 210000k on it. my buddy has a 94 mazda navajo 4.0 2door 5 speed with 80,000k. his has a bad tranny. was wondering if the trannies were interchangeable? the ford dealer told me that they had different part#s for their trannies, but didn't know if that meant it wouldn't work.

Should be swappable if you're both 4x4 or both 2x4. If you're 2x4 you'll just need to swap the speedo gear.
