So my 2000 Mounty had an issue this weekend. I was driving along, and noticed that the vehicle had more body sway than normal. I checked it out, and found a broken front sway bar end link. It was late in the day on saturday. No Ford dealerships were open, so I started measuring some of my other toys. My sway bar end links were shorter on my 96 Mustang GT, as well as on my 79 Mercury Capri, than my Mounty had. But after much thought, I went and purchased part number K8265 from Oreillys. It is a sway bar end link kit for a 79-?? Mustang. After removing the rusty nasty stock style end links, and installing the Mustang end links, the Mounty is back up and going, and feels good as ever in the corners. Plus I dont have to worry about the rusty bolts breaking, like the previous end link did. Plus the total cost of the new end links was under 20 bucks. I have a feeling the ford end link would have been much more expensive. Plus the other side was so close to breaking. So If your X or Mounty hasnt broken the front sway bar end link, or if it breaks some time soon, you know what your option is. You wont be able to do just one side, because its not an exact match. But by doing both sides you will never have to worry about the stock plastic junk end links again.
