So my 2000 Mounty had an issue this weekend. I was driving along, and noticed that the vehicle had more body sway than normal. I checked it out, and found a broken front sway bar end link. It was late in the day on saturday. No Ford dealerships were open, so I started measuring some of my other toys. My sway bar end links were shorter on my 96 Mustang GT, as well as on my 79 Mercury Capri, than my Mounty had. But after much thought, I went and purchased part number K8265 from Oreillys. It is a sway bar end link kit for a 79-?? Mustang. After removing the rusty nasty stock style end links, and installing the Mustang end links, the Mounty is back up and going, and feels good as ever in the corners. Plus I dont have to worry about the rusty bolts breaking, like the previous end link did. Plus the total cost of the new end links was under 20 bucks. I have a feeling the ford end link would have been much more expensive. Plus the other side was so close to breaking. So If your X or Mounty hasnt broken the front sway bar end link, or if it breaks some time soon, you know what your option is. You wont be able to do just one side, because its not an exact match. But by doing both sides you will never have to worry about the stock plastic junk end links again.

Good job improvising.

I'm suprised you couldn't find the correct end link kits at a parts store. Most parts stores keep several sets of Explorer end links in stock.

I got my replacement Explorer end link kits from Advance Auto Parts. The kits have the steel bolts/sleeves/washers and urethane bushings. Rubber bushings are also available.

He didn't even ask for the explorer ones because he thought they had the plastic sleeve like the ones from the factory.

Ah, I see.

Mine do too, craptastic plastic. Had to cut it off w/ a Sawzall. But I got it without much haggle. Done it twice to the same side now. Apparently the first time it loosened itself up and ended up breaking when I tried to tighten it up.
