i have a 2000 explorer awd and i noticed today that when the lights are on the rear windshield wiper switch is illuminated however the fog light switch under it is not is this switch supposed to be illuminated to?

at least mine does

The switches on the radio bezel all have individual lights in them. If you pull the radio bezel, and take the switch pod out, (2 screws) the bulbs can be easily removed to be replaced. Small flathead screwdriver turns them to unlock, and they come out. I usually grab the bulbs from the junkyard, as they're not always easy to find in the marketplace, so I have a small stash on the shelf. :)
 






Yes, the switch should light up. I had to replace the bulbs in my switches as well. I used some bulbs from Radio Shack, #272-1092. These bulbs are slightly smaller than the factory ones, but they work well. You will have to remove the colored cover off of the factory bulbs and place it on these to get the "green" look to your switches that you have now.
