Well, I called Royal Purple as asked if it is Mecon V compatable...and the answer was yes. So I asked why it is not stated on the bottle and was told that it doesn't meet the spec....then I was like huh?

Well it goes something like this....

To be Mercon V compatable, it has to be a class III hydrocarbon and it is a class IV....so although it superceeds III, technically they can't put Mercon V on the bottle even though it is better than Mercon V....

After a phone call to Mobil 1, you can't use it in Mercon V application period!

WOW thanks....thats good to know.

I figured the Mobil one synth would work in Mercon V, but I never used it thank goodness...

Amsoil is Mercon V compatable (stated right on the bottle), but I am thinking that if what Royal Purple said is true, then Amsoil is a class III and that Royal Purple is better since it is one class above Amsoil.....??

.

I have used Mobil 1 in my 99 ( which is suposed to require Merc V ) for over 65k miles with no ill effects, period.

The Mobil rep definatly stated not to use Mobil 1 in a Mercon V app......hummm

I have heard all about not to use it, however, it works well for me, no worries and still get 30 MPG on the road.

A4LD ?

I just put in a new (remanufactured) by Ford A4ld in my 91 X. Would this be a good time to go synthetic, and if so what kind? I know nothing about syn. other than its supposed to be better.

Thanks David

I would definately go synthetic and I would use Amsoil.

Good luck.....

I saw that stuff in the store recently, and if I remember right it was more expensive than the Mobil 1 synthetic ATF.
