Asking for my neighbor.
He has a 97 Ranger that he swapped in a 5.0 from a 97 Explorer and wants to know where the tach input goes into the computer.
Anyone have a diagram or info?

PIN 48 tan with yellow is
PCM to TACHOMETER
Should be same pin V8 trucks

Wire can be found at several locations, at the 42 pin big square plug, at the bulkhead connectors, at test port, and behind the instrument cluster

The wire enters the instrument cluster in different locations V6 vs v8, otherwise I think it is always in the same spot

Thanks Jamie, I’ll give this to him!
He did the swap several years ago, but last year decided to convert from EFI to carb (!) and ripped out as much wiring as possible. He now has trouble with the trans not wanting to downshift, and thinks hitching the tach back up might be what’s needed, but he couldn’t remember where the tach wiring goes. It’s all over my head, lol.

What transmission?

Going carb can be a Great setup!
