So here's the story...

I was out driving the other night pulling the boat trailer like I have done a hundred times before. All of the sudden I get a burning smell coming from under the dash (never a good sign). I pull over and turn everything off to see if I could figure out the problem. Everything seems to be OK so I drive .5 miles back to the house. The next evening I get pulled over because my tail lights are not working and now I don't know where to start to find out where the problem is. Other than the tail lights everything else is working fine (brake lights, dash lights, etc..)

I'm pretty sure a wire got hot and burned thru now I need to find it. My questions are 1) why didn't a fuse blow first? and 2) what color wire is it I'm looking for and where should I start? The smell came from around the glove box area so I looked there first and saw a bundle of about 100 wires. Any help on what color I should be looking for would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

OK.

How would I go about checking this. I am assuming you mean the actual switch on the dash, right?

It ain't your headlight switch.... :-) Its your LOM module.... the feed for the stop lights did a "let the smoke out" at or near the connector.
