Best thing you ever did to that truck was rid of it
Missing headlight pretty much forced induction power adder right there

I used a np205 in 84 ranger fits really well
Twin sticked it
Made a second mount fir it on drivers frame rail with rubber isolator
It worked out well
Gear driven
Low range not the best, no gears avail for a ford np205
We run atf in it and he drives fast it’s held up 12 years now

1356 needs small notch
4406 might fit? I dunno I never stuffed one in a gen 1 bii or ranger yet

Build a 1356 1354 doubler? 1356 doubler of some sort would be killer
In fact build two! I could use one!!!!
 






Hold up a minute

How is that engine out and truck up on stands? That hoist must be huge long

And the feet aren't spread wide either.
The 4 foot ladder is a good reference point for how high the B2 is.
 






Yeah, not sure how high you think it is, but it's just an old HF unit, set on the half ton (longest) setting. On the jackstands, the B2 still isn't high enough to clear 285s.
 






Now for a little tech. A few posts back, I asked about the F150 6 lug rear brakes. Today, I had a little time at the Nampa jalopy. They annoyed me about the parts pricing, but for the dollar entrance fee, I took a few pictures. From what I can tell, the 6 lug brakes are really close to explorer's, as far as backspacing. I was really on the fence, until I measured the backing plate bolts. Front to back, they are the same as the explorer, but top to bottom, they are further, so unless someone welded on new axle tube mounts, it's not a bolt on. Finally, it's not the best, but I took a picture of a 6 lug 8.8 tag

The 241 was used in GMC and mopar applications. The 242HD is a better option. it's a 241 in a 242 case and has full time 4 wheel drive.
I'm not actually opposed to any of the T-case suggestions, EXCEPT that it has to bolt to a 6L80e. I don't know if the BWs are the same splines or not

Tell me more about this 242HD. Are they manual shift?

Manual shift on the fly, several input shafts available. NW fabworks also makes custom input shafts for them. I got one to use a ford transmission with a 242HD. It has the same 1.25 inch wide chain the 241 has. 31 spline output shafts. It's strong enough to survive behind a diesel in a hummer with a 10k gvw. The full time 4 wheel drive can be used on dry pavement. Many upgrades available depending on how much you're going to beat on it.

More than likely over kill but I've seen a few 8.8 axle tubes spin on the center housing, makes for a long day out on the trail! On my Explorer version 2.0 build the tubes got fully welded on both sides thanks to a welding guru friend of mine but some tacks around the tube might be a good idea.
 






I need to do some research, but I think I just need to pre and post heat, and use 7018.

The 98-00 Durango is the cheapest. It was also used in the 00-03 grand cherokee. There maybe other donors as well. It's the heavy duty version of the transfer case that's in my 99 Grand Cherokee. I'll be rebuilding one for my diesel Jeep Liberty project.

It has 2 wheel drive, the Tahoe in the 2000s had a 149 transfer case option so the 242HD can be mated to the GMC transmission with that extension housing.
 






Thanks, you guys, for giving me more homework:laugh: I'm definitely interested in this as an option.

While it would be much easier to just do a stock build, this is a fun challenge! I've been researching wheel studs for the chevy hubs. It's interesting how something so (seemingly) easy can eat up a bunch of time. I'll post them when I get everything back together.
 






So I researched the welding of the axle tubes to the center chunk

For every dude who puts the whole assembly in an oven and pre heats and this and that there is another dude who simply pre heated the parts with a torch and then mig or tig weld the axle tubes 1-2” at a time.

Works fine
I’m the second dude
Never warped a tube and never spun one that was welded

I drilled a hole in my Pittsburgh cherry picker about 4” past the 1/2 ton mark and I shortened the chain down to one link…. I can get a v8 over a ranger on 35’s
 






I only have a 110v MIG, no TIG, and I prefer stick welding. Could I just preheat and stick it? Anybody know what kind of stick? If you're just using MIG, I could probably use 6011 or 6013. Thoughts?

Not related, but what about spring plates and U-bolts for the 8.8? Is there an easy junkyard option?

U Bolts cheap enough I have them made in town about $8-10 each don’t want to re use?

I re use the spring perches and shock mounts we plasma torched off the 7.5 rear

Great thing about the plasma is the fine pencil like torch head makes re using parts easier.

Can cut the shock ears off the explorer 8.8 spring plates and use them

F150 u bolts and springs plates might also work?

What year is that 6 lug solid axle f150?
