I only have a 110v MIG, no TIG, and I prefer stick welding. Could I just preheat and stick it? Anybody know what kind of stick? If you're just using MIG, I could probably use 6011 or 6013. Thoughts?

Not related, but what about spring plates and U-bolts for the 8.8? Is there an easy junkyard option?
You need something with a high nickel content to weld the cast iron. A MIG weld will look good then crack under stress. Drilling and tapping the hole for a bolt will keep the tubes from spinning.

I think it was an 07 F150. It's the body style after the 97-03ish ones.

Josh, I thought the center was cast steel, not iron. 🤷‍♂️

Anybody know for sure which it is?

Cast steel, that's my bad.

Bingo

I'd preheat the pumpkin on the bbq and weld it up and then bbq it again and close the lid and turn it off. 😁

I thought we were making new long perches Ted?

Sure 😁

Here's today's update. Honestly, I was having analysis paralysis about welding the tubes. It seems that there's a thousand ways, and everyone else thinks they are wrong.

Well, I realized that I have a practice axle-Lloyd's broken Sterling. I decided to use Stain weld 308-16. Clean really well. Pre heat. 1" welds. Get frisky peening it.On my welder, I used 114A. I'm not Bacon Creek Metal, but I did manage to glue it together. No cracks

Im not one to think another way is wrong, if it works. I'm usually good at figuring out the ways not to do it by trial and error.

What are we looking at here? Why is the tube Mia? Are we lengthening this side? Replace the tube? I’m lost

Good work!
Pumpkins on a bbq now I’m hungry

Is that a practice diff?

That's Lloyd's broken Sterling. I had to cut the tubes to get the broken shafts out. I wanted it for the gears. I'm glad I kept it.

I just kept fiddling with technique and amperage until it welded like I like. Even still, the Sterling welded a little different than the 8.8

More B2 body pics.....

Here's some body pics, but probably not what you meant. I cleaned the firewall, buffed it and waxed it. I pulled the clutch stuff and the master cylinder so it was easier to clean. I also made a clutch hole cover out of aluminum diamond plate

Great job on the cover.

Thanks! I find stuff like that fun, as aluminum is kind of like working with wood, and it's fairly quick and easy. It was an old piece I had laying out in the weeds, so I'm pleased how well all the corrosion and rust staining came out of it.

So you are stuffing a v8 in here

Will it have a body lift?
If not then you will be folding that firewall to floor panel seem over with a bfh
