Replaced the Michelin Cross Terrains (235/70/16) on my 05 XLT Explorer with Continental Conti Cross Contacts of the same size 235/70/16. Primary concern was that I did not want to mess with offsetting the odometer or speedo. Got a 30 day test drive from the place I bought them from.

Now, I have noticed that I'm 4 MPH different (over actual) with these. After reviewing the spec on them the Revs per mile were higher (725 vs 712 stock). Does not totally explain it however, I am now a little frustrated.

I just got back from the tire dealer and ordered some Michelin LTX 245/75/16 tires. The tire is 1.3 inches taller and 1/2 inch wider than the stock tires. Revs per mile went from 712 to 684. I figure that this is about a 2.5 mph difference and from the stock number and further balanced by the offset of how the Cross contacts were running (@ 725 revs per mile), I suspect I will be very close to where they need to be.

Will my tranni relearn the difference to the new tire size in the PCM? I don't want to have to have ford flash it. I honestly don't trust them after it taking 3 times to fix the float in my gas tank.

Anyone have the LTX tires in this size on their similar year Explorer?
