I was flipping thru the January '05 issue of Petersen's 4Wheel & Off-Road and came across an article on installing Auto Meter gauges (in a D*dge Ram). Auto Meter offers a temperature manifold for mechanical gauges. There are actually two, one for 3/8" O.D. lines and one for 5/16" O.D. lines.
I've read a lot of threads about Explorer transmissions and their inability to handle high temps. This would provide an easy way to install a mechanical gauge (to keep an eye on that all important lubricant temperature) without having to drill the pan or cooler. A quick internet Search shows prices to be in the $35 to $40 range.
I was kicking around the idea of installing a remote filter (remote filter bases sometimes have a port for mechanical temp. gauges) and a cooler. Now if I decide to just install the cooler, I can also install a temp. gauge.
