Nice vid of your Dad, looks like he was having a blast.
I can picture an exo from the bumper around bed and then following the cut out wheel well.

Wish I was there with plenty of tubing either round and or square, tubing bender for the round and or chop saw, angle grinder with a dozen cut-off wheels, welder, sheet metal to finish rear bed and a few days it would be done in that dept.

I think it would be cool to have a traveling fab/sheet metal shop with welder/ sheet metal brake, tubing bender and most all tools needed for off road only builds. Pull up in a guys drive way and Get R Done. Price, as big as your heart.
Just around this one dog town I'd get all kinds of work.
Used to work many moons ago with a company that did have a sheet metal fab shop in a cargo van. This was for HVAC work, but still sheet metal fab work is basically the same whether on a 4x4 or any commercial work.

Of course, towing Samson behind it, working/wheeling across the country.

we were standing around and I was like who wants to drive while I video this little trail? he immediately jumped in there, he went on a few runs with us and now he is gathering parts for his own crawler, custom frame, 350, th350, chev 203 to ford 205, hp d60 front and sterling 10.25 rear. he is gonna put a ford model A convertible body on it. should be a cool rig, funny how 2 runs can make a guy an addict haha.

yeah fly out and we will get the cage finished in a few days, lol. my tubing doesn't come in until the 2nd week of October, but we got a killer deal on it, and between Eric and I we have 13 sticks of 1 3/4 dom. should be enough to do my cage and fix his. also need to go get a sheet of 18 gauge for the fenderwells, those need to get done so I can put the back seats in.

I went to the local wrecking yard and picked up a coil, it was 20 bucks, I went into their warehouse and tested all of them they had on the shelf, this one tested the best, it seems to idle a little smoother now, hopefully it runs better now, this stalling out stuff is bs.

btw if I was single this would be the plan of the century, all the peeps I know on the internet that can't do the work for themselves. you would be the man to do my fenderwells, with all the sheetmetal work you have done in your life, they would come out *****in, the ones I do are probably gonna come out slightly "special". hell I'll probably cut out a 50 gal drum and weld that in.

lol I could, but I think I'll probably pick up a sheet of 18ga or maybe 16ga. and Eric has that sheetmetal break, I want them to come out not looking like crap, that"s probably why I've put it off for so long, I don't want to make a mockery of the sheetmetal business.

also a few pics of the sunday afternoon session of the woods trail at my dads, my beautiful bride behind the wheel.

or we needed a place to put his tail pipe when it fell off lol.

A lot of guys around here are doing something like that but with general car repairs. This old guy drives around in an old Chevelle with a trunk full of tools and works on your ride in your driveway.

I like the digi camo. Tastefully done.

old dude in a chevelle, haha awesome. yeah I thought he was crazy, he paints everything camo, he once had an old subaru that was camo with a diamond plate bumper. pretty odd dude but he's family, what can you do?

I had a leaks on both of my front tires, figured it was coming from the beadlocks so last night I went out and pulled the rings off, they had been overtightened and were rusty, beat them out straight and cleaned up the rust with a wire wheel on the grinder. new bolts and they are good as new and have held pressure overnight, guess we will see long term how they hold up.

did some extensive modification, since I took the bumper off and cut the rear quarters I haven't had a bumper and I hated my taillights, Eric came up with the idea for a "mini bob". basically I cut the taillight buckets out flush with the outside mounting surface of the taillight, basically taking 4-5" out of my body(mini bob). here are a series of pics to show what we did, don't mind the fact it looks like Eric is doing all the work, he jumped in there when I stepped back to take a pic:D
this is what we started with
E201-45D4-8DB4-F2E588782705-12392-000010A1BBDA5458.jpg

then cut it out, I didn't get a pic of the driver side cut off but here is Eric acting like he is running the sawzall
FDEF-41DF-A912-2F2EB7180AB7-12392-000010A1C3016593.jpg

and the pass side cut off
6B95-45E9-A1B7-A14A56654570-12392-000010A1D19AB497.jpg

Eric actually did make the template,
3BCD-4381-A740-F7C2C51E1642-12392-000010A1CAFCF7D9.jpg

then we started tacking the patch in, cut from 16ga with the plasma.
4CCA-426F-82AA-C8788A040F17-13526-0000129A1980EC8D.jpg

and the finished taillight product, well it needs finish welding and body work, light is a trailer taillight from the local tractor supply place.
070E-433A-A066-23BA51089CDF-13526-0000129A11360F0D.jpg

now when we got that done and the other side ready to go on, we decided to use one of the sticks of 1 1/2" hrew I had kicking around to make a bumper for it, Eric is the man with bending tube so I let him take the lead on this one, and it came out awesome. first was his idea to not go 90deg in one bend, but rather make a 20 and 70 deg bend a few inches from each other, this made the top hoop for the bumper look really cool and more 3 dimensional.
B973-4C44-A07D-925813E878AA-13526-0000129AC5489FC0.jpg

then we bent up a lower tube for it, now I realize now this seems like it fell together, but unfortunately eric had loaned his bender out, and since he got it back we have had a hell of a time getting it to sit level, so the first hoop for the bumper came out all screwed up, so the first one we bent became the lower tube, here it is tacked on the bumper, I actually bent that one and coped it myself.

I just realized I didn't take a pic of the really cool brackets I designed to mount the bumper to the frame, it utilizes the existing holes for the stock bumper mount, extends down and then I used the press brake to bend it to a 90 deg that extends out and welds to the bottom of the bumper, ill take a pic and post it up when I pull the bumper back off to paint it, here is the bumper finish welded and bolted up.

I think its obvious in the one pic the sawzall blade is actually moving.

Yah gotta mess around with the bender a bit more we got a whole lotta cage to redo and Jons whole cage to do plus a bronco cage.

It really came out cool I will add this pic to show you how much actually came off

Not a huge difference in and of itself but Jons rig has so many little cool things done to it that help that when you add them all up it makes for a formidable little ride.

Jon has a couple more ideas about what to do with that back end too that should come out way cool.

That's what I like, from conception to completion. Looks very unique and cool.
Are you going to really use the trailer hitch on the back? If not I say good riddance.
I know on mine when it had one in the stock location it would plow into the ground when going verticle. Even posted pics of it.

yeah it is going away, it does protect the gas tank a little but the tank is going to be replaced and relocated anyway.

on to a bigger problem though I have a vibration/clunking noise somewhere in the drivertrain. when you hit about 8-10 mph it vibrates and then smooths out after you speed up. then in reverse it clunks when you stop. I would think it was a ujoint if I didn't have a brand new driveshaft in there, and the shaft seems solid. guess I need to thoroughly check the rear end and tcase.

Pinion nut loose? How about put truck on jack stands, then turn tires by hand back and forth and if that don't tell you something then start up and put in gear and check all rotating parts? I did this once and found that the DS was the problem.

thats the plan, I got under there and wiggled the ds, seemed tight but won't know for sure till its in the air.

thanks man, most of the cool Ideas are yours, I just execute them the way i'm told. i'm kind of a little *****, haha.

front passenger axle link mount was loose as hell, washer had come loose, so thats why the thunk in reverse, the bolt could slide back and forth. I should have made a link mount for that side too. wish I had kept the template, could have cut that out really easy with the plasma. then i'd have to take the axle out though.
