The Tragedy of Axle Code 41! Now what!

There is a crossmember right at the back of your frame. Just a little off center, towards the passenger side should be a round, grey connector with a cap. Remove the cap and that is where you plug in your wire adapter that should have been included. If it isn't there, then either Ford screwed up when they built yours or you don't have the optional tow package. I believe all Explorers had the Trailer Tow Prep as standard equipment. The only thing it means is that your bumper is rated the same as a class II hitch. The optional Trailer Tow package added about $300 retail to my '97 and included the LS, wire adapter, auxillary transmission cooler and supposedly the relays. Do you have a limited slip? If you do then you have the optional package since the only way to get a LS in '97 was by ordering the package. When I went through the dealers build book when I chose what I wanted, I didn't figure that I would ever tow anything, but I did want the LS. The only way for me to get it was if I ordered the tow package. At the time I didn't realize that it also included the cooler so I'm glad I got it.

I have the number 41 stuck on the side on my door. That sucks! Ohh well, time for a Auburn Limited Slip and some gears!
