All:

Thank you in advance for your answers. Really looking for a confirmation. I have the Haynes book but it seems to be weak for info. They state the specs for the housing (black base that the thermostat lies in) is 89 ft lbs. These are the long screws that go into the intake. Then there are the three small screws that seal the top of the thermostat cap to the housing. Can't seem to find this torque spec at all.

Please confirm or send me in the correct direction. Looking for specs for both or a confirmation of what I have listed above.

Thank you.

I bet it should be 89 in lbs. It doesn't take much to torque those bolts and they snap easy. I usually just snug them up good with a 1/4" ratchet, can't do too much damage with that.

You are correct, and I am an idiot! Oh boy....

When I changed my t-stat and coolant last year in May, I re-tightened the t-stat housing bolts according to the torque specs in the Haynes manual (89 in lbs) and I haven't had a leak or problem from it at all. So the torque rating in the Haynes manual must be correct. I did use a 1/4" torque wrench for tightening up the bolts. I bought my torque wrench from my local Harbor Freight Tools store for $21.
