So what's up with this? It's like the top selling SUV and they didn't even give it a chance? I mean is it because the X is in a class of it's own? I don't get it!:fire:

Did you read the article?

"Twenty-five vehicles participated in 2002—primarily models that are either new or redesigned for the 2003 model year."

The Explorer hasn't been redesigned for 2003.

Woops...

"I have no Recollection of the events in which you speak!"

Be curious on how it'd do. How does it compare to the 4Runner? Any comments?

Unless I'm mistaken the Envoy, Grand Cherokee, H2, and Liberty are all the same as the 2002 year with no drivetrain changes, so I still think they should have test the X.

You have to admitt, Ford kicks @$$!!! Land Rover and Volvo best in it's class. If they tested the X, it would have beat the 4Runner, and then it wouldn't be fair, so that's why they didn't let it compete.:D

The Explorer is in a class of it's own:D too good for any of the others to be in;)

Most of those trucks weren't redesigned or new for 03', really only the 4-Runner, Rover, and some other ones.

Guess they knew non of them would stand a chance against the 03' Explorer NBX:)

NBX?

no boundaries edition... think xlt/xls/sport combination... very cool

I don't really pay attention to other automakers, so I looked them up;

Envoy: New 5.3L 290hp V8 Engine
Grand Cherokee: Refined suspension, improved brakes
H2: There was no 2002 H2, first introduced as an '03
Liberty: New 4-wheel disc brakes

I agreee though, the X should have been there, but the only change was the NBX package, which has "a Yakima LoadWarrior cargo basket, BFGoodrich Rugged Trail T/A tires and 17-inch wheels; DVD entertainment system; and AdvanceTrac stability system".

And a high preformance suspension! That's what Ford is calling it anyway, check out the Ford.com website.

I saw a yellow 03' Explorer NBX at a Ford dealer. It looks really cool and nice in that color. And the rims look mad cool IMO for a factory rim - gives the Explorer a nice agressive look and the Yakima rack looks sweet to.

Ford was going to offer an off-road package for the 03' year, maybe they still will, but they decided to go with the NBX package as that would suit a larger audience.

in that pic on the website i see a Navigator and what appear to be an Expedition??? I can't believe the Expedition didn't win anything, it's just a bigger version of the Explorer now isnt' it?

only in looks and rear suspension is the Expedition alike, totally different frames/chassis and just about everything else, it's still big as hell. Personally I wouldn't ever need a truck that big, I'd rather go with an Aviator.

they're not too big for me, but then again i'm 6'7 and my little 92 X is not "roomy"

The Navigator and Expedition are the same, but way different then the Explorer.

Hey so now there is the Explorer, Mounty, and the Aviator right? Are they all just different trims? What do you guys think of this:

I'm very impressed with the Aviator, very true to the Navigtor, but very different from the Explorer. Check out the Car & Driver Link to see the differences.

And some of us think changing plugs & wires in an Explorer is a pain !!!!

Personally, I think this is one of the problems with almost all of the automotive "awards" (motor trends truck/car of the year, peterson's 4x4 of the year, etc). This kind of approach doesn't lend itself well to comparing old tried and true designs to the new designs.
