Are there any mods you can make to the third brake light on a 98 Explorer?

There is a thread on here about replacing the bulbs with LED's.

I was wondering about changing the cover or something like that

I dont think it's a cover per say... Ebay has some vinyl overlays for it, says Explorer etc. when lit. I had one on my old '95, looked nice to me.

At least in the '97 it is a complete lamp assemlbly with a neon bulb inside. I replaced it with LEDs when it went out. Something would have to be designed specifically to fit that hole or you'd have to do body work. I didn't find anything made for it. I think someone put a clean piece there and put the red neon lamp behind it somehow. I think it required some body work, or at least a whole lot of silicone.

I have one of those vinlye overlays it says
Xplorer

I like it :)

I tinted mine

Take it out, spray with lens tint. let dry a few days and wetsand with 2000 grit. then lightly wax
It will blend in with a black truck

edit i did 3 light coats, might have done 1 more
It is very visible with brakes
