So just got a new fuel pump in..car seems to be accelerating a bit weird. Spark plugs are pretty new...would they have been damaged by someone trying to continuely starting the car when the other pump blew....? Also thinking of a new fuel filter and cleaning the TB...but i noticed alot of slack in the throttle cable attached to the TB. I can reach in and grab the gas pedal and move it alot back...is it suppose to be like this or is it from just having alot of miles on it. Its a 2001 explorer sport with 126k miles on it.

I would like to remove the slack from my cable also, I changed to a ported 4.6 Mustang TB. There has been mention of a throttle stop adjustment, I wonder if those threads would affect the slack also. Regards,

you guys try the search? i believe there is a thread on a free mod about getting rid of the slack on your cable for a quiker throttle response.plus to make sure when you got the pedal down all the way, your throttle body flange is opening all the way.

I was reading a thread on here about throttle cable slack not to long a go. Not sure where. I think I just stumbled upon it. There were pictures too. Several different approaches to this issue were used. The one I used was zip tyes on the cable between the accelerator pedal and where the cable goes thru the firewall. I had maybe a 1/4" of play, a dead spot where when you first touch the pedal until the cable actually starts to open the T/B butterfly. Not a lot but some people had up to an inch of play. I didnt want any play so I pressed lightly on the accelerator pedal with my hand to take up the slack. Be careful not to press to hard, it doesnt take much pressure to start opening up that butterfly. I measured the slack between the pedal and firewall feed thru and put zip tyes around the cable to act as a spacer. It's been working great for me. If after doing this it idles higher than normal than you will know the cable has to much tension. Just adjust, add or remove zip tyes as necessary.
