i have a 96 explorer i’ve been repairing things on recently (cooling system, tune-up) and now when i turn it on, it idles at 2k rpms for a few seconds then drops, which seems normal to me, however, if i even barely tap the gas pedal it will shoot up to 2000-2500 rpms. the same will occur if i shift into revers, drive or neutral. i’ve already cleaned my IAC, tried a new one, and have cleaned my throttle body. any ideas?

Sounds like what happens when you have a vacuum leak. Check all your vacuum hoses to ensure they are attached and not cracked.

With a helper you can also verify that the throttle body is closing with the throttle pedal and not sticking. You can test that with the engine off.

Rick's right. You might have knocked a vacuum line loose or cracked an old tube while changing the wires.
