can't find anything searching that is close to what mine does it only ticks going up the summits on the freeway under acceleration but if i play with the throttle i can get it to become more quiet or louder i try to find a happy medium so i dont destroy something. any suggestions? I've been thinking of running some seafoam through the gas im worried about doing the crankcase because i think i have a slight leak and dont want to make it worse.

The only reason I can think of that you didn't find this in searching the forum is not knowing exactly what to search for. The pre-ignition/detonation/ping issue is very common on these engines and has been discussed many times.

Seafoam through the combustion chamber may help - if your pinging is due to carbon buildup in the cylinders. The other two common things to look at are dirty MAF and lower intake manifold gasket leak. MAF can usually be cleaned (search -- this has been described here before), and most of the time the lower intake manifold gasket leak is from the bolts coming loose, and you can simply tighten them down to fix.

Plugs new haven't changed the wires. not sure about preigniton or detanation? its kind of a constant uphill thing. I can check the maf. after work or on my days off.

It sounds something like a rattle like a metal rattling/ticking sound. I dont know when i could get a sound clip because i think that would be helpful.

sounds like a metal rattling coming from the engine bay? that is preignition or detination. do a search for both of those, you will get some helfpul info. did this only start to occur after the plug change? were they gapped correctly?

Is this a manual? mine did the same thing a long time ago right after a clutch change but it was in the area of the bell housing. it went away after a little bit though and i forgot about it until now.

Yah i gapped them correctly, unfortanatly it has done this way before i changed the plugs.

Had a similar problem. One of my wires had broken almost all the way through. It's worth a try. The new wires and seafoam made a huge difference.

Ill check into that. It's such an obnoxious issue, it doesn't do it in town just up damn hills that are relativly steep. Oh well i still love it and will fix it.

What grade gas are you using?
If it's regular go buy a bottle of octane booster, stop by the gas station, pour in the octane booster and then fill up with premium. If the pinging goes away shortly later that's definitely what it is, and that's what it sounds like from your description.

Could it be noisy lifters or valve train making noise under load? I just starting hearding a similar ticking sound coming from bedhind the dash under heavier load.

I did replace my wires and nothing since. i did not put two and two together till now

Fastest test -- use premium gas -- if it gets better or goes away, you've found the basis for the problem. Eliminating it is more bother. I just ran premium in mine. With 33s, I had to!
