ticking

hi new to this form...........these things are great!

My issue is a 94 explorer,it runs great until it is put under load then ticks like mad,have tried higher octane with no luck,any Ideas?

if it sounds like a bunch of marbles/BBs in a coffee can being shaken then it's probably detonation.

check fuel pressure, check MAF (do a search for 'cleaning MAF'), check fuel filter.
