I'm trying to get a 94 explorer to run right, no power, backfires, spits and sputters under load. Sometimes by shifting down to drive, it helps. fuel pressure is ok at hiway speeds. New fuel filter.

I have just checked the secondary resistance in the coils. book says 6.5 to 11.5K. I get 14K.

I pulled the plug on the SPOUT and the timing mark is close, but not exactly on the pointer. could just be the angle that I'm looking.

If the timing chain jumped one tooth, how far off would the timing mark be?

Could it be the coils? (the primary resistance is within specs.)

Thanks
Rich

...could be a bad coil, bad ground or bad pcm...try to read your codes..:D

Make a quick check of all vacuum lines. Be sure that they are all attached and no ports are open. Also check the line to the FPR for fuel in it, and the line to the vacuum modulator. Just a couple of things that should be looked at first. Good luck,

I have a code reader, but the light stays on and does not flash.

no vacumm leaks.

Fpr (fuel pressure regulater??) what about fuel in the line. Is there not suspose to fuel there?

Correct, it is possible to have enough fuel get into the vacuum lines from back firing, to cause the line to expand, losing seal and regulator function(full pressure). The vacuum modulator of the A4LD can fail and have trans fluid suck into the engine. Both of those will make the engine run badly, and the lines look fine at a glance.
