Hello all. I need tires and I'm looking at some that have a 105H load rating. I'm not sure what kingd of trailer I will get but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot by getting wimpy load rated tires. 2017 Explorer base 3.5l and I need an oil cooler. THANKS. Oh Goodyear Assurance tires.

Do you have the factory tow package? If so, the load rating on the OEM tires you have now should be good enough.

I have basically put it in myself. All I have to do is install the oil cooler. Thank You!

That being the case, the vehicle tow rating would be 2000 lbs so I believe most tires will be good for that.

Actually all I have read it's 5000lbs. (with tow Pkg) I would not have bought the vehicle if it was that wimpy.

The 5000 lb rating is only for those with the factory installed tow package. With an aftermarket installation it is 2000 lbs. The factory installed package has more than just an oil cooler. This has been discussed many times in the forum.
It is also listed on page 242 of the Owner's Guide, 3rd printing.

Agree to disagree. Talked to the service dept. said no difference. I'm doing the same thing they do,

The service department is wrong Mat and it wouldn't be the first time service departments have been wrong. Have you read the links I posted. Once the vehicle leaves the factory the legal tow rating can not be changed. The tow package also includes a tow/haul button to regulate the transmission shifts, has a different radiator and a different transmission. It also has a cooling duct that directs air to the PTU/transmission area through a cutout in the front valance. Even if you installed a class III hitch, it is still legally rated to tow 2000 lbs. Towing more than that will likely void any warranty issues that might come up with the powertrain.

Your problem comes with the legality of the tow rating.

No matter what you do to your Explorer it will never be rated for more than 2000 lbs. You could place a F350 frame under it and it will still just be rated at 2000 lbs.
