Tire shine

Is it true tire shine will damage the sidewall and make the tire look like crap? after i applied some to my old wildernesses it made them more brownish black than anything else. Then they came black again with more shine. Is this something the product does just so you will keep putting more shine and buying more shine. I have Turtle Wax Shine, the rub on this time, not the spray and Im wondering if i should use it on my new tires. thanx

the only thing that will cause damage to the tires is the foam stuff - it dry rots the tires, regular spray on tire wet stuff is fine. the reason your tires look brown is because theyre dirty. try this stuff called "westleys bleche white." it work amazing to clean the crud off of tires.

oh, sorry...

foamy stuff = any tire cleaner that foams up - that type of stuff will dry rot your tires.

wet stuff = anything that you spray on your tires to make em look wet, but dont use stuff that foams.

how about that turtle wax tire shine that you must rub onto the tires, it lasts pretty long, that wont mess up the tire will it?

I don't use it, or recommend it. Although, It depends on the tire. I have Dunlop performance tires on my car, & the manual says not to use ANY tire dressing at all. This is because the rubber has some uv protectant to help protect the sidewalls, & make them stronger. The addition of a dressing will deteriate this over time, & make the rubber brittle. Is it true?? Maybe, maybe not, but at $260/tire, I'll follow there rules. Other tires are fine. My X's tires do not get dressing either. Just because it tends to spray on the fenders, leaving little marks untill I wash it again. I also learned not to use it on white cars, because some stain the paint. I never understood this tire thing. The tire gets dirty anyway, that's part of it's job. A good cleaning with some soap should be all that's needed. IMHO

i bought a bottle of this one dayat a local store and when i went to use it i read on the back that it can corrode aluminum rims. is this true, and how do you apply it? thanks for your input in advance.

if you want a good trick, use a little bit of transmission fluid and smear it on the tire. gives it the permanent "wet look" and keeps it black and shiny. just don't go touching your tires after, or you'll get a handfull of fluid

nah, that westleys bleche white is perfectly safe for rubber - thats what its designed for. as far as aluminum goes, i just do my best to keep it off my wheels. if it comes in contact with my wheels, i usually keep a wet rage nearby and wipe it off. i guess if youre nervous, dont use it, but it works amazingly.
