Would a P235/70/R15 fit in place of a 235/75/R15?

I like the look of a wider tire. Just wonder if this will work without any problems?

are you asking if a smaller tire will fit in place of the bigger one? they are both 235 so the width of the tread will be the same.

It all depends on what make/model tire you choose. Some might be virtually the same size, while others might be an inch difference in height and width. I have a Bridgestone/Firestone chart if thats what brand you are looking for.

Exactly what I was thinking.

they will fit. you will have more room in wheel well than before.
what they said.
i assume you have a typo up there somewhere?

most U.S tyres are bigger than Japanese tyres go to independant tyre shop &get them to show you.

The "X" said ...

Are you saying that a 235/75/15 from brand "A" might be bigger or smaller than a 235/75/15 from brand "X" ?

I thought that was the purpose of the size to let you know what you are getting, size wise anyway.

Yes, they may be slightly different, but usually only a max of 1/2". Usually the difference between manufacturers is more in height. This is due to different tread patterns and compounds.

No, what Im saying is, from what I have seen, is that the 235/70 is slightly wider than the 235/75 tire. In other words, the 235/70 is fatter looking than the 235/75 tire. The height is the same for both tires. Only the width of the tire are different.

Am I right or wrong on this?

You are wrong. The 235 is the width, which is the same. The 75 or 70 is height (in percentage of width). So, in theory, both should be the same width while the 70 would be slightly lower than the 75.

Sorry - wrong way.

You have it wrong Im afraid- 235 designates tread width, and the 70 or 75 is the aspect ratio, or height of sidewalls.

235/70 would have side walls 235mm X 70% =164.5mm

235/75 would have side walls 235mm x 75%= 176.25mm

So you can see the tread widthc are the same, but the heights are different. Those are theoretical numbers- lots of variables come into play like mfr and wheel width.

Best to check with the specific tire mfr and model you want to run- even tires made by the same mfrs and different styles will be differnent heights for the same size.

Good Luck

Wouldn't it be better to put on a 255/70 R15? That way theres only a +.3% height difference. I've heard its BAD to use a shorter tire, messes up your gears. Will a 255/70 R15 fit on a 15 X 7 rim OK? I've been thinking about putting on a set of Yokohama AVID S/T's for better gas milage over my A/T's.

smaller tires will actually give you better off the line acceleration i believe. the same reason peopel go to 4.10 from 3.73, but in the opposite way. going with smaller tires will somewhat give the effect of gettin a different gear ratio. Im prob off on this concept, but theres some truth to this i believe.

smaller tires as in shorter sidewalls yes, but I was talking about the overall height of the tire.

well smaller sidewall on the same size rim will make it a smaller height

obviously if you went from a 15 inch rim with a 235/70/15 to a 275/45/20 , the height of the tire increases even though the thickness of the sidewall decreases.

Well its not bad, but you will have the speedo and speed sensors reading wrong, so they would need to be recalibrated. No different than adding a larger tire. You just need to account for it so the engine transmission work correctly.

But BAD no.

I have the Bridgestone spec chart right in front of me. For the Dueler H/L a 235/70R15 overall tire dia. 27.9, overall section width 9.6, tread width 6.9
For a 235/75R15 OTD is 28.9 OS is 8.9 TW is 6.9
