Well Saturday I ordered my Tires for my 20" rims. I placed my order on line and it looked good. $615 for Goodyear GT2's shipped! Great price. Today I received a call today and it was a guy from there just wanting to know what kind of car these were going on. I didn't think of anything and just blurted out 2001 Ford Explorer. He said "Sorry I am not allowed to sell you these tire's. We can only sell you Ford Factory Specified sizes." He started going on about how the Firestone - Explorer rollover thing caused this. There was no way in heck he was going to sell me these tire. So I say "What does that have to do with me putting tires on my F-150?" He said excuse me. I said I want to put these on my F-150. He said "Sir, I know you are putting these on your Explorer and I am not selling you these size tires. I asked him if I could place another order. He said for anything other than at 20" tire. So I asked for his manager and he said that he would say the same thing. He said that he would make a note on my account to red flag any further attemps to get those size tires. So I asked him to hold. Then used the other line. I called the Main number to tirerack and ordered a set of 275/45/20's for my f-150 before he could do any flagging! LOL. :D Then just hung up on the other line.

So moral of the story is if you want to order tires from there don't tell them it's for an Explorer!  ;)

Smoooth. Thats some Spy $h!t you just did. Quick thinking!

That's some funny S**t. Way 2 beat their sh**ty policies.

It's like that for almost any tire retailer nowadays.

About a year ago I bought some Gara 18" chrome rims and Pirelli's for my 98 Sport from Tire Rack. I have used them a couple more times and they are always great. Anyway I recently looked on their website and they no longer have any rims for the older Explorers. I called them up and they just said that they wouldn't sell anything for it because of lawsuits. They will however sell rims for the new ones no problem. Kinda funny though

Yeah, Sears wouldn't mount 235/75/15 TAko's on my truck. They would only mount a passenger radial. Not a light truck tire:rolleyes:

Just remember: You Are Mounting Them On A '97 Jeep Wrangler!

that should cover the wheels and tires.

Is it just me, or is this not selling stuff for explorers getting ever more stupid? I mean, you're obviously customizing your ride, and hell, if they wanted to protect themselves, make the buyer sign something.. That way they have it on paper... Geez... Well, I guess I've been lucky so far... Although, I got my current tires through a local customization shop where they understand that people might want to change things..

Haha, good thinking Black Magic! Can't wait to see the finished product

I avoided the online tire thing all together after reading a post on here about this issue a few months ago. I went ahead and ordered from a local shop thru a friend who has no problem getting them for a ford explorer nor does he have a problem balancing and mounting them on 20';s and putting them on my explorer.

Frankly ive never heard such B.S in my life. Ford cannot control what you buy and put on your vehicle. If you own it, it is your right as owner to do with it what you like.. .. thats like buying a TV and then having sony tell you that you cant watch fox on your tv cuz it might break the tv..
If anything they can only WARN you about risks involved but not control what u do with it..

I just dont get it.. this issue is making strongly consider if my next vehicle purcharse will be a FORD product. :-/

Anyway smooth move man.. quick thinking hehe on calling on another line. I would have lost it on the guy and tore him a new A$$hole.. even tho its not his fault..

ever since the Firestone Stuff hit the Fan, TireRack.com, Pulled the "Explorer" option from its site so that you could not get the lisiting for tires for a Ford Explorer. They have not been kind to the Ford Explorer Community ever since the Firestone Stuff hit the Fan. You can get better prices else where, you just have to do some leg work....

My opinon is to stay away from TireRack.com

If you order on-line from Tirerack, do they still know what vehicle you are putting them on? I want to get some 255/60/17s next Spring.

Doh BM! There are threads all over that say tell them you drive a Durango!

Anabolic:
It's not Ford's fault, its the retailers trying to cover their @sses.

Do you guys think it will past inspection.

What is funny is that they will only install/sell the stock size tires.. thinking it will keep them away from liability...

In actuality(sp?) it can bring litigation to them... Example.. If they were to force me to install 215x75xr-15 passengar car tires (like Costco wants me to have) or our 1992 Explorer that weights well over 4klbs empty.. and well over 5klbs when loaded and I had an accident becuase the tires couldn't hold the weight I may have a case against them... Just like people had a case against companies that put the tires to 26psi (which ford said to) even though that was a bad idea in the first place.

This is why discount tire's offical stance is if the vehicle is modified to handle the tires. sell and install them.. (I had a store refuse to sell to me until I had the corporate office tell them the corporate policy).

So far I have not had any problems ordering from etire.com larry was real helpfull hell i even told him what it was going on(2002 x sport). I bought some 18" wheels and toyo 285/60r18's they mount and balance for free. Total was like 1,700 something. The wheels are american racing(jammer). I really dont have the budget for anything more expensive. I just hope everything works out ok.

Oh, if a certain person found out about the above.. my balls well... so shhhhh no tellin

Black Magic: my bud came over and we took some pics of my x in its current state. I will have pics up sooon.
I will get pics of the new wheels when they come in.
