My truck is a 91 xlt with twin I beam suspension for now. With me adding a 6" suspension lift and a 3" body lift, what are the biggest tires i can fit on? 33, 35? Please help. Also, if i do go to say a 35, will any gearing be necessary. I dont do too much rock crawling, mostly mud and trail riding, i hope i dont have to change gears.:eek:

A 36 would fit with a little bit of trimming.A 37 would fit with more trimming.

But at this point, you are realizing the limits of the TTB suspension. It's my opinion, if you want to go with a 35 or bigger, you need to do an SAS.

I kept my gears stock up until I got 32s on, and talk about sluggish. Before I had the gears in, acceleration was pretty sad, as well as gas mileage. After I got the gears, 4.56s, my gas mileage went up 6 mpg, and my acceleration returned about to stock. Then I went to 33s and my acceleration dropped a little, and so did gas mileage. SO, in conclusion, in my opinion of course, you will definitely need to re-gear. 4.56 is the popular application, but you may want to talk to someone with 35s. Good luck :D

i have 3:73 gears now, can i at least get from A to B for now?

Yes. As long as you keep the gear selector in D, and not OD. Also, you will need to add a tranny cooler, and do not think of going offroad until you regear.

You could probably get away with running 35s with 3.73s. a friend of mine with a 93 explorer did that till he went with a solid axle and 36s.

if/when he does regear which gears should he go with? 5.13s or even higher (lower in actuality)? i'm just wondering.

Expo 5.0, and Tiger; this will give a good representation of what gears/tire diam./ RPM's, one may desire;

This table is pretty accurate, since I have 4.10's and at 75mph I am at 3000 rpm. I am not positive if 5.13's are even available for the front and rear, but gears at 4.88 or so might work. I personally think 4.56's would work, but I know a guy (he has an SOHC 4.0 Ex, though) that is running 35's on 4.10's. Probably far from optimal though. As was mentioned you could fit at least 35's, but count on re-gearing.... your 3.73's should be ok with 33's with a loss of power, so going with 33's after the lifts but prior to $$ for regearing could always be an option.... just an idea though. Good luck with your choice.
