to 4X4 or not....

aight i got a 98 5.0 v8 xlt RWD...and the only thing i dont like about it is that its not a 4x4. iv been looking for forever all over for one...but since no luck, im thinking about making the switch myself to a 4x4...but the thing is i dont got a clue about this type of mod. so im just trying to get all the info i can bout the process, and then ultimately decide if im gonna do it.
so what do you guys think? should i just keep looking or just go ahead and start planning?

Here's a thread with some info http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=235071 if you need more just search 4x4 conversion and you'll see some threads on the 2nd gen explorer. If its seeming impossible to find an awd or 4X4 truck then I say get to work on your truck. Since your truck is 5.0 you will not have to get another GEM to make urs awd or 4X4 because you can do the BW4406 swap its a manual t-case but there is electronic versions you can look up 4406 swap for more info to have a traditional 4X4 if you go electronic 4406 then there is computer work to be done.
