Hard to believe Huh ?

1996 2 wheel drive Explorer.

Normally ( I think ) to turn on the AC, the vent position switch needs to be to the left of off or straight up. To the right should be fan only ( again I think )

For some reason, my AC compressor is running in what I think should be the fan only portion of the control.

Any ideas where to start ?

Compressor runs in every position except top vent. (Position just to the left of off)
Just as an FYI it's in the owners manual

Thanks Colin,

My manual mentions that the first to the left position past OFF won't cool below outside air. ( implying that the compressor doesn't run ).

While experimenting after reading the manual, I also found that the second position to the right past "OFF" is a fan-only position. ( single arrow to feet )

So, It looks like there are two positions that turn off the compressor....
Single arrow to feet and single arrow to face.
All other positions .... blends and defrost turns on the AC compressor.

My Chevys and Dodges both have AC push-buttons for compressor on/off.

Thanks ... I learned something new today.
