slightly? Highly:D j/k

Rhett - he used 3.55 gears with a supercharged 347 as with that much power it's better to have those instead of 3.73, 4.10, 4.30 ect, b/c you would trap right out of the power band. With the 3.55's it keeps it right on accelerating hard throught the traps. Although, on his, it puts out so much power anyway probably wouldn't matter.

I have a 2000 Sport, and it will top out at 110 and hold. (And by the way quite smooth at that speed).

That's when the electronic limiter kicks in. If the limiter was disabled, I believe it go to about 120 easy.

I only did this once just to see what my baby would do. I know it was at 110, because my speedo is marked to 120 vs. the only 85 mark on earlier models.

Speed limits are imposed based on the tire ratings for the particular vehicle, if different size\rated tires are used on the same vehicle they will have different speed limitations. Also a vehicles final drive ratio will affect the speed limitation. A vehicle with a lower numerical gear ratio will be theoreticaly capable of a higher top speed (horsepower limited) and so will be goverened differently.

I didn't realize troll had re-geared, I thought his came that way. I should have known better since he modded everything else. :)

I'm sure mine at least goes 110-115 mph. (I got needle almost straight down once), this was at 205,000 miles, and with the stock 3.73 gearing, and it is SLOW to get the truck to go that fast (took about a minute from 70 mph to reach 100 Mph), and you have to be on flat land or going downhill, uphill it tops out at about 95. I have only tried it twice, and for the sake of my poor 9 year old Ex's engine, I'm not doing that again (I was running up to at the fastest RPM about 3500 in 5th gear).

a I will search that chip, but I think that the 92 explorers computer didnt have chips, my computer only work over the Motor: RPM, injection and similar functions.
My sport is a 5° manual. When I go at 85 miles /h in 4° I chanche to 5° and the Explorer cant past the 85 miles. If I go in 5° and change to 4° the same.
I was usig the stardard tires...now I buyed the 31-10-50 X15 scorpion Mud.
I know that my vehicle past the 85 miles/hour, she realy run at 100 miles, when my tacometer indicates that she goes at 85.
But I cant believe that my solution" is the unique.
I CAN FIND THE peace of %$%$&&$ (top speed control) to disengage it.
Do you know where is located or if is posible to disengage.... I think that is located behind the tacometer

I have a 97 Sport 4x4 (sohc) with 3.45 gears and I have reached between 115-120 mph without the speed limiter kicking in. I'm not sure, but I believe my governor may be set at 120, I'm just guessing. Anyone else gone this fast??

3.45 gears were not an option from Ford in '97. The only gears offered on the '97 2-door 4x4 were 3.27, 3.55, 3.73 & 4.10. Ford did have a recall about a year ago for vehicles that had their top speed governer set incorrectly. The vehicles in question had their governers set for an axle ratio that was higher than what the vehicle was equipped with. This applied to all (most) Explorers with an axle ratio other than 4.10. If you can really get your Explorer up to 120 MPH then that is likely why. If you take it in to Ford for other service and there is an outstanding recall, they will reflash your PCM and then tell you after the fact about how they performed some service for you for free.

I have not the manual of my vehicle, it not comes with she, when I buyed it.
In the left door I find a description of her, Tires, color, weigth etc. There I find the unique information about my axle: 41.
What means 41? I dont Know, and the dealer here Is so bad. The didnt imported Explorers 92, and "because that" they dont have information about this model.
Bull sE&%&!!!!
I realy dont know if my rear axle is 3.27, 3.73 or what...but ...I read your opinions, everyone.. and I think that there is my problem, the axle .
Probably I have not a speed limit control, the rear axle is the problem, it cant pass 85 miles/hour

axle code 41 = 3.27 open gears

3.27 open gears
TKS Rhett

what i want to know is what top speed someone has went AFTER getting the chip to remove the governor. that would be interesting.

top speeds

my friend got about 117-118 in his 93 xlt auto. thought u might want some added advice

Hit about 105 or so before I decided to back off. Still had plenty of pedal to go and I think even another downshift. Gotta love the SOHC's top-end.

with i removed and with the hp your gonna make i bet it tops off around 140. Mine won't go over 125 or so, but i think you'll be able to get up there a good bit more with a few hundred more horses even though the drag will increase exponentially at some point

Now, I dont Know why my speed limit is 85. I was reading this topic, and somewere here saids: greater number of the relation in the gear is low top speed.
I dont know

Leford, maybe something is wrong with your truck mechanically? No explorer should be computer limited to 85......

my speedomether go until 85 miles...that is the top speed

No no, all first-gen speedometers go to 85. You can still go faster than that, you just won't know exactly how fast you're going
