i am putting a new shortblock into my wifes 5.0L mountaineer, while im at it ive decided to get the heads ported, with bigger valves installed, an Ecam is in the shortblock to take better advantage of increased airflow. now i want the converter to stall a little higher maybe 500-1000 RPM, to better match the cams powerband. i know that a cheap trick for a chevy 700r4 tranny behind a v8 is to swap the torque converter for a V6 torque converter, and youll gain 500-800 rpm... is the same true for the ford? if i take a torque converter from a V6 explorer will it bolt up to the V8 and will it give me the extra rpm im looking for??

no answer huh? im thinking ill get a '99 4.0L converter and see if it fits, anyone got one laying around they dont want?

Do some research first. I doubt the splines will match but who knows?

Remember the higher stall will result in more heat developed during city driving-
Also, these are lock up converters-if that makes a difference.

yeah i cant find anything about it...
yeah good thing we live in the country;) lol we are 5 mins from the highway but we live 1 hour away from any traffic, guess i could throw a cooler on there to be safe:D
