Does anyone know the torque specs on an 8.8 ring gear and the carrier bearing caps?

i torqure the carrier to 65 ft lbs,

They are 75 or 85 lbs.ft, I have forgotten which. They are one or the other. Good luck,
Don

85 I believe.

I don't know who is the author of those numbers, but I disagree with those Ford numbers.

I have seen the Ford torque specs, in Ford manuals. Those numbers in that chart are too low.

All torque specs are based on the individual bolt sizes. Ford generally uses larger bolts compared to Chevy stuff, as an example. Those 8.8 main cap bolts are 5/8" I believe. Wheel studs are 1/2", and they are supposed to be 75-90 lbs.ft.

9" rearends have at least that large of main cap bolts. They absolutely require more than 60 lbs.ft.

For whom it may concern, find a better source than that general chart given in the link above. Call a machine shop for example, and tell them what bolt size you are dealing with. Good luck,
Don

TRS charts are horrible. Most are complete inaccurate. Thats from experience dealing with TRS.

I have a Ford shop manual in front of me, and it says 70-85 Lb-Ft.

..

What kind of service publications are we all using to get this info??? Every one seems to be different... but I see where the 77 comes from, as it's right in the middle of 70 and 85.

The guys who did my gears forgot the thread locker on the ring gear bolts, well 5 of them came out and made a nice mess of my pinion and ring gear also the cover. :)
